On June 5, Shen Jai Confucius Institute held the Dragon Boat Festival cultural experience activity at Yucai Chinese Middle School in Ipoh, Malaysia. Teachers of Shen Jai Confucius Institute celebrated the Dragon Boat Festival with the principal, teachers and students of Yucai Chinese Middle School and felt the charm of Chinese culture.
Ms. Yang Lin, teacher of Shen Jai Confucius Institute, vividly and interestingly introduced the origin of Dragon Boat Festival and traditional customs such as eating rice dumplings, racing dragon boats, hanging wormwood, tying colorful ropes, wearing sachets and so on by means of interactive Q&A with students. She organized students to read ancient poems related to Dragon Boat Festival, which deepened their understanding of the Dragon Boat Festival folk culture through exchanges and interactions.
During the activity, the Confucius Institute teachers showed the students one of the elements of the Dragon Boat Festival, "sachets", and guided them to learn how to make sachets, which aroused great interest among the students. Although it was the first time for most of the students to pick up a needle and thread, they all learned to wrap moxa with a needle and a piece of cloth.
The students showed their hand-sewn sachets and said that the activity not only increased their understanding of the Dragon Boat Festival culture, but also experienced the unique charm and fun of sewing sachets in the process of hands-on practice.
Mr. Lin Songjiang, Principal of Yucai Chinese Middle School, expressed his gratitude to Shen Jai Confucius Institute for organizing and hosting this Dragon Boat Festival activity. He said that this activity brought students a unique and wonderful experience of traditional Chinese festivals, and he looked forward to cooperating closely with Shen Jai Confucius Institute in the future to carry out more interesting thematic activities to further enhance students' understanding of Chinese culture.
