On September 6th, Richard A Williams, Principal of Heriot-Watt University, UK, led a delegation to visit Xidian University. Mr. Zhang Xinliang, President of Xidian University attended this meeting and delivered a speech. The meeting was hosted by Mr. Zhang Jincheng, Vice President of Xidian University.

Zhang Xinliang welcomed Richard A Williams and his delegation, and affirmed the quality and talents cultivation achievements of the Joint education program organized by the two universities. He expressed the hope that the two universities can continue to deepen cooperation on the basis of friendship and mutual trust, build a new model of “1+1+1” cooperation, expand joint doctoral training and cooperative education program in new subject areas on the basis of existing joint education program, promote academic progress and scientific research innovation of the two universities, and set an example of friendly cooperation between Chinese and British universities.

Richard A Williams reviewed the history of cooperation between the two universities, congratulated the achievements of Xidian and cooperation between the two universities, thanked the colleagues who participated in this cooperation and put forward the willingness and expectation to deepen two universities’ cooperation.

At the meeting, the presidents of the two universities renewed the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation. Igor Guz, Dean of School of Engineering & Physical Sciences, and Wei Jun, Secretary of the Party Committee of School of Telecommunications Engineering, respectively shared the achievements of the joint education program and the graduates’ further study and employment situation. Cui Jiangtao, Dean of School of Computer Science and Technology of Xidian University, introduced the preparation for the application of the new joint education program of Data Science and Big Data Technology with the School of Mathematics and Computer Science of Heriot-Watt University.

Responsible comrades of the Department of International Affairs of Heriot-Watt University, the China and East Asia Office and the Division of International Cooperation and Exchanges, XDU attended the meeting.

After the meeting, the principal and his delegation of Heriot-Watt University met with the students of the joint education program. There was a warm interactive atmosphere at the meeting, and the delegation was deeply impressed by the excellent English communication ability and professional quality of these students.
