Detailed Regulations on Cultivation and Degree Awarding for International Undergraduates in Xidian University

Chapter I General

Article 1  In order to promote the international education exchange and cooperation of Xidian University, maintain the normal order of education and teaching, and ensure the quality of education for international students, and in accordance with Administrative Regulations on International Students Admission to Colleges and Universities and Regulations on Recruitment and Education of Colleges and Universities  for International Students issued by Ministry of Education, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Public Security, Trial Implementation of Methods on Degree Awarded to International Students by Colleges and Universities in China issued by Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, Quality Standards for Higher Education for International Students in China (Trial) issued by Ministry of Education and relevant regulations, laws and regulations, and Regulations on Bachelor Degree Awarded by Xidian University and other regulations, we formulated the regulations for degree awarding for international undergraduates in Xidian University.

Article 2  International undergraduates in China here refer to the international students having no Chinese nationality and receiving undergraduate education in Xidian University, who are part of student group in Xidian University.

Article 3  International students in China must abide by the laws and regulations of the People's Republic of China, the rules and disciplines of our university, the relevant regulations on the cultivation and degree awarding of international students in China of our school, and the academic ethics.

Article 4  Education for international undergraduates is part of undergraduate education of our university and managed by Undergraduate School.

Chapter II Education and Degree Awarding for International Undergraduates

Article 5  Educational system and study period of international undergraduates are the same as that of Chinese students. The educational management and degree awarding are same required as that of Chinese students.

Article 6  International undergraduates studying in China (taught in Chinese) are arranged in different schools and departments, and their teaching system and academic Status are managed in the same way as Chinese students.

Article 7  The educational program for undergraduates studying in China should be based on the basic requirements of degree awarding of each major, combined with the training objectives and development characteristics of international students in China, formulated by the major, examined and approved by the academic degree evaluation committee of the major and submitted to the Undergraduate School for record before implementing.In the educational program, educational objective, study period, educational method, curriculum, credit requirement, academic exercise (major practice), dissertation and degree awarding for international undergraduates should be definitely stated and timely adjusted based on the development of discipline and the requirement of talent education.

Article 8  According to the relevant regulations of Ministry of Education, Chinese and China overview should be the compulsory courses for international students for admission.Political theory should be a compulsory course for international students majoring in philosophy and political science. International students majoring in other majors may apply for exemption.

Article 9  For the faculties with conditions to teach in English, the major courses taught in English can be offered to international undergraduates.International students who use English to accept undergraduate education can submit English graduation dissertation with Chinese abstract.Whether the reply to dissertation is in English should be determined by faculties.

Article 10 Bachelor's degree will be awarded to undergraduates who meet the requirements of the regulations and the following academic standards, and have been approved to graduate after examination. Specific requirements are as follows:

1. The student need to pass the examinations of basic theory courses, major courses and elective courses required by related majors, obtain the required credits of each major, and the course learning and graduation dissertation achievement need to achieve the standard required by the university.

2. The students need to initially master Chinese.Basic ability to use daily language and read Chinese materials of this major is required.In the disciplines and majors where Chinese is the major teaching language, the Chinese language proficiency at the time of graduation shall reach HSK level-5.In the disciplines and majors where English is the major teaching language, the Chinese language proficiency at the time of graduation shall reach HSK level-4.

Article 11  The bachelor's degree shall not be granted in one of the following specific circumstances generally:

1. The one who is not qualified for graduation at that time shall be granted with course-completion certificate;

2. In the disciplines and majors where Chinese is the major teaching language, the Chinese language proficiency at the time of graduation fails to reach HSK level-5.In the disciplines and majors where English is the major teaching language, the Chinese language proficiency at the time of graduation fails to reach HSK level-4.

3. Those who have received demerit recording or other punishments at a higher level; those who have been severely warned without outstanding performance; or those who have received warnings without significant improvement.

Chapter III Supplementary Provisions

Article 12  Certificate of graduation and Diploma awarded to international undergraduates by university should be filled in Chinese and provided with the translated copy, printed and written in English.

Article 13  Matters not mentioned hereof shall be implemented in accordance with relevant regulations of Chinese students of Xidian University.

Article 14  The regulations should be put into execution since the date of issuance. In case of any inconsistency between the previous regulations and the current one, the current one shall prevail.

Article 15  The Regulations is interpreted by Undergraduate School and Department of International Cooperation and Exchange.
